From there, take to the streets for your first coffee break. - Did you know Australia is known for having some of the world’s best coffee?   I recommend setting off in a neighborhood close to your hotel in the event you would like to go back and relax. It truly has been a long travel day. Please note:  In October, many of the sites around town open around 10:00 am and close by 5:00 pm. Be sure to check the hours for the season in which you are traveling.   Powerhouse Museum – Free Entry; four levels of expertly curated exhibits, theaters and interactive labs exploring Australia's cultural and historical identities. Chinese Friendship Garden – a hidden sanctuary in the heart of Darling Square and the bustling concourse surrounding the International Convention Center. Enjoy the peace and serenity of this little haven. Darling Square – full of cafes and eateries, unique architecture along with Darling Square Library where you can cozy up next to a big window with a book to rest your legs. The Exchange – a food hall with a variety of dining options, great place to grab lunch or a mid-morning or afternoon snack. Pyrmont Bridge – a nice stroll connecting Darling Harbour with King Street Wharf and Cockle Bay Wharf, two areas full of restaurants to enjoy an evening harbour-side, or continue further inland into the Central Business District (CBD) Day 2 – Central Business District (CBD)   Between Day 1 and Day 2 of this guide were two full days of conference events where I met many local Aussies, each excited to share some of their favourite haunts around the CBD as well as the residential and beachside neighborhoods. After being cooped up in a convention center for several days, I was itching to get outside in the sun and cooler temps that settled in after a big rainstorm.   Highlights:   Circular Quay - Immerse yourself in the heartbeat of Sydney Harbor at Circular Quay. Opt for a ferry ride to nearby ports, treating yourself to unparalleled views of the harbor and its iconic monuments as you gracefully float by. Sydney Opera House - Prepare to be enchanted as you ascend the steps beneath the grandeur of the Sydney Opera House. Forget everything you thought you knew about this magnificent structure. The intricate tiling and the shimmering brilliance on a sunny spring day will undoubtedly take your breath away. (Paid Tours also available) Sydney Harbour Bridge - More than an architectural wonder, the Sydney Harbour Bridge seamlessly connects the CBD to the North Shore. Whether you choose a leisurely stroll across it for breathtaking harbor vistas or opt for a picturesque picnic in the adjacent parks, this statuesque landmark offers an experience like no other. Thrill-seekers can even embark on an exhilarating climb over the arch. Taronga Zoo - Embark on an adventure at Taronga Zoo, where emus, kangaroos, birds, and koalas await in their enclosures (note: paid experience). Meander through exhibits featuring Koalas, Kangaroos, Crocodiles, Quokas, and much more. And don't forget to keep an eye out for the free-roaming turkeys, engaged in playful pursuits and occasionally kicking up decorative mulch. Stroll through Hyde Park & Botanical Gardens - Experience leisure in the heart of Sydney with a tranquil stroll through both Hyde Park and the Botanical Gardens. Day 3 – Paddington & Bondi Beach   A wonderful relaxing Saturday lay ahead, with the weather cool and refreshing. I headed out east into the residential neighborhoods in search of some local flair. Using the public transportation system (ie, busses and ferries) was a breeze. With such a simple tap-on and tap-off system to track the distance travelled ensures that you only pay for what you use and Google Maps navigating you along the way makes travel a breeze.   Upon arriving in the quiet residential neighborhood of Paddington, I popped in a cute café and joined the locals for an early morning breakfast. After a few turns and a quick stroll in the historic Paddington Reservoir Gardens, I found myself a few blocks away wandering between booths of local delicacies as well as artisan crafts and jewelry before hopping back on the bus down to Bondi Beach. Sunny days call for surf and seafood, much of which I found upon stepping out into the beachside hustle of Bondi. Bondi is also known for its local Saturday markets, where you can grab delicious handheld eats and live music just opposite of the beachside boardwalk where you can watch surfers taking on the crystal blue waves.   Unwind in:   Paddington Reservoir Gardens – A transformed reservoir offering tranquility and hidden enclaves. Paddington Markets – A lovely neighborhood Saturday market hosting clothing, accessories & home items from local artisans and designers. Bondi Markets – An open-air weekend market full of unique finds from local crafts-women and men, tasty treats and live music set upon a schoolground with plenty of picnic space.  Hotel Ravesis – Sip delicate cocktails on the sun-filled balcony patio while enjoying views of Bondi Beach. Afternoon Tea & Shopping at The Queen Victoria Building - Savor an elegant afternoon tea and enjoy shopping in the historic charm of The Queen Victoria Building. Additional Days   Though I was able to see a significant amount of Sydney in my few days between work responsibilities, Sydney's charm extends beyond its vibrant cityscape, encompassing pristine beaches and captivating natural wonders. If your schedule permits, venture beyond the city limits for a taste of Australia's awe-inspiring mountain ranges and waterfront landscapes.   Around Sydney: Manly Beach - Iconic sandy retreat with excellent surf, accessible by scenic ferry, offering a laid-back atmosphere, shopping on The Corso, and vibrant promenades. Watsons Bay -   Picturesque harbor suburb known for stunning views, featuring the historic Hornby Lighthouse, Gap Park, and waterside seafood dining. Blue Mountains - Spectacular mountainous region with eucalyptus forests, iconic landmarks like the Three Sisters, Scenic World attractions, and charming Katoomba town. Be sure not to too order too much, but if you do, most restaurants will find a way to repurpose your leftovers for their community members.   Nomad : For a taste of modern Moroccan cuisine, look no further than Nomad. Marvel at the vibrant souks brimming with spices, textiles, and handicrafts, and immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of daily life in this ancient walled city.   Visit Le Jardin Majorelle : Step into a botanical paradise at Le Jardin Majorelle, a serene oasis nestled in the heart of Marrakech. Designed by French painter Jacques Majorelle in the 1920s and later owned by Yves Saint Laurent, this enchanting garden boasts a kaleidoscope of exotic plants, vibrant flowers, and tranquil pools, all set against the backdrop of the iconic cobalt blue villa.   Explore Bahia Palace : Journey back in time to the opulent days of the Moroccan sultans with a visit to Bahia Palace. Enjoy a tranquil afternoon surrounded by sweeping desert vistas, where the only sounds are the whisper of the wind and the gentle rustle of the sand. I recommend asking permission before taking a photograph of someone, their home or their market stall. A quick little gesture with your hands and a smile will go a long way. From stunning views atop Arthur’s Seat or Blackford Hills to the colorful pathways at the free Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh is a great place to get lost in nature while still being close to the city. Vienna, Austria: Vienna, the cultural heart of Austria, offers a sensory feast of grand palaces, classical music, and delectable pastries. Exploring its rich heritage left me feeling deeply connected to the global appreciation for art and history. Savoring a slice of Sachertorte in a traditional Viennese café was a moment of pure indulgence and cultural immersion. Navigating the metro system (in German) to visit the grandiose estates of Schönbrunn & Belvedere Palaces was an adventure in and of itself. I am so grateful for technology of today, especially Google Maps to help get me where I wanted go whilst not knowing the local language. Sometimes, the best moments are had when visiting amazing sites alone and also having the courage to be silly when asking a stranger to take your photo. Sydney, Australia: Sydney, a city that truly has it all, captivated me with its iconic landmarks, stunning beaches, and vibrant food scene. Basking in the sun and surf, I felt a sense of renewal and awe at the natural beauty surrounding me. From exploring the bustling markets of Paddington to taking a leisurely stroll along the coastal cliffs of Bondi Beach, every moment in Sydney felt like a celebration of life and adventure. I also found enjoyment in simple walks through the Boston Commons and surrounding shopping areas, stopping for delicious seafood eats around town and even a pint at the famous Cheers bar.
